WasteLand Baptism Lyrics

Scripture Mapping

Intro]
Wrong road, dust in my lungs
(Isaiah 53:6) - “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.” Wandering away from God’s path and breathing in the consequences of rebellion.

Searing heat, legs can’t run
(Psalm 63:1) - “My soul thirsts for You… in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” Spiritual exhaustion and desperation in the wilderness.

[VERSE 1]

Broke past the lines You drew
(Romans 3:23) - “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Crossing boundaries God established.

Chasing what I thought was true
(Proverbs 14:12) - “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” Following self-defined truth instead of God’s wisdom.

Miles from where I planned to be
(Luke 15:13) - “He set off for a distant country…” Wandering farther than intended, like the prodigal son.

Still somehow You followed me
(Psalm 139:7–8) - “Where can I go from Your Spirit?” God’s presence and pursuit remain even in rebellion.

Didn’t wait for me to learn
(Romans 5:8) - “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God moved first before understanding or repentance was complete.

Met me right where I burned
(Lamentations 3:19–22) - “I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall… Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed.” The lyric reflects being spiritually consumed by guilt and ruin, yet not abandoned by God.

[PRE-CHORUS]

I thought I’d gone too far
(Psalm 103:12) - “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Fear of being beyond redemption is answered by God’s mercy.

Lost sight of my North Star
(Hebrews 12:2) - “Fixing our eyes on Jesus…” Losing spiritual direction by taking eyes off Christ.

[CHORUS]

You met me in the dirt
(Psalm 40:2) - “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire.” God meets and rescues us from the ruin and pit we could not escape ourselves.

Called it holy ground
(Exodus 3:5) - “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” God transforms wilderness encounters into sacred moments.

Living water washed me clean
(John 4:14) - “The water I give them will become… eternal life.” Baptism and cleansing through Christ.

Was lost but now I’m found
(Luke 15:24) - “He was lost and is found.” Restoration and return to the Father.

I won’t run away, won’t even hesitate
(Hebrews 10:39) - “We do not belong to those who shrink back…” Refusing retreat after coming to faith.

I went in, I took Your hand
(Isaiah 41:13) - “I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand.” God personally leading and steadying His people.

Here I’ll make my stand
(Ephesians 6:13) - “After you have done everything, to stand.” Standing firm after surrender.

[VERSE 2]

I knew the words but not the way
(Matthew 15:8) - “These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.” Knowing religion intellectually without truly walking with God.

Heard Your stories and how to pray
(James 1:22) - “Do not merely listen to the word… Do what it says.” Hearing truth without yet living it.

Forks in my road, no given route
(Proverbs 3:5–6) - “Trust in the Lord… and He will make your paths straight.” Confusion before surrendering direction to God.

Wandering lost in my own doubt
(James 1:6) - “The one who doubts is like a wave of the sea…” Spiritual instability caused by doubt.

Then You met me in that place
(John 1:48) - “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree.” God sees and meets people personally before they realize it.

Sent a voice that matched my pace
(Acts 8:29–31) - “The Spirit told Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.’ … Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.” God sends the right voice at the right moment, meeting someone where they are and walking beside them toward understanding.

Didn’t force it, didn’t wait
(Revelation 3:20) - “I stand at the door and knock.” God invites instead of coercing, yet remains present and ready.

Caught all of me that very day
(Romans 7:18–19, 24–25) - “I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out… Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God…” God meets both the struggle and the surrender within us.

No random chance, no happenstance
(Romans 8:28) - “In all things God works for the good…” God’s providence works beneath what appears random.

You were working way back when
(John 6:44) - “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them.” Even before understanding, God was already drawing the heart toward Him.

What I couldn’t see was true
(2 Corinthians 5:7) - “We live by faith, not by sight.” Truth exists even before it is understood.

Love was pulling me to You
(Romans 2:4) - “God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance.” It is God’s love and kindness, not fear alone, that draws the heart toward surrender.

[PRE-CHORUS]

When You speak, I hear Your voice
(John 10:27) - “My sheep listen to My voice…” Recognition of the Shepherd’s voice.

In that moment - I had a choice
(Acts 2:37–38) - “Brothers, what shall we do? … Repent and be baptized…” Conviction leads to a personal decision to respond in faith and obedience.

You said “now!”, by Your command
(2 Corinthians 6:2) - “Now is the day of salvation.” God’s call demands immediate response.

No more signs, no more delay
(Hebrews 3:15) - “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” The moment of finally responding without postponement.

I went under that day
(Romans 6:4) - “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death.” Baptism as surrender and dying to the old self.

Thought I found my way to You
(John 15:16) - “You did not choose Me, but I chose you.” Realization that God initiated the relationship first.

It was You breaking through
(Psalm 18:16) - “He reached down from on high and took hold of me.” God intervenes and rescues personally.

You were already there
